ACL fest
so this weekend was the ACL fest. three days of insane heat and rock and roll with a little hip hop and soul thrown in for good measure.
i hung out with audrey and megan all weekend and their friends in from virginia. i feel like i drank three times my body weight in lone star.
this picture about sums up the weekend. here's megan drinking a tall boy in the convenient store parking lot on the way to the festival on day two.
see the chair on her back? our friend dave gave us each one. we brought 7 down to the festival. how many made it back at the end of the day? one. ha.
megan's boyfriend got her an artist's pass which gave her access to the hospitality tent at each stage and free beer. she was our meal ticket for the weekend. we took full advantage of it.
the highlights of the weekend for me were broken social scene (so much so that megan and i wormed our way into the sold out show at the parish later that night. thank god for connections.) and the pixies. the pixies SO did not disapoint.
this is my favorite picture. here's our buddy satan dave with a look of SHEER JOY on his face as the pixies were singing their first song. priceless.
my favorite part of the whole weekend was when, during the pixies set, megan turns to me and says, "the only way this could get better is if they did a van halen cover and we did some karate kicks." seriously, i love that girl.
by the third day i was exhausted and didn't run from stage to stage. after catching the roots (who got me to move my ass midday in the texas heat) and elvis costello (who threw a couple "suspicious minds" lyrics into "allison". elvis doing elvis. amazing.), i met up with megan and lana and their friend erin for wilco.
i had a good view of the screen for that show. it was hard to get photos of artists otherwise.
we caught the gourds at the continental club later that evening. and capped off the beer fueled weekend of rock with whiskey and dancing.
perfect.
