sxsw day four

the last day of sxsw.

started out with lunch at el sol y la luna with megan, greg, and lana.

it was quite possibly one of the craziest waitress experiences ever. we sat for a good 20 minutes before someone ever came over to our table. and when they did they didn't say hello or anything, but "how long you going to be here?" apparently there was a band that was going to play on the patio and they wanted to know if we were staying for it. then our waitress talked shit about us in spanish while standing AT OUR TABLE. guess she didn't know that i took a few years of spanish in college. punk ass.

i asked for a refill on coffee and i thought greg was going to have a heart attack. he was convinced she was evil and would kill all of us if asked for anything.

after the lunch from hell, lana and i headed over to a party at lombardi called fuck by fuck you. (sorry, that's what it was called. for real.)

as with all parties this week, there were kegs of free beer and tons of bands lined up.

i love this place, with the train tracks. there's something strangely romantic about it.

we caught this great three piece girl punk band from japan called bleach. they were awesome.

that night, i went out early to catch my buddy steve's band play at de ville. then ruben and i headed over to check out japan night at elysium. i have no pictures of the japanese girl death metal band we caught because i didn't sufficiently hide my camera and the door guy made me give him my battery to hold while i was inside. punk asses everywhere. good thing i hid my flask of whiskey better than i did my camera.

after the japanese band, i left ruben and headed over to emo's to get in before it got too crowded for the hives.

har mar superstar opened up for them. um. i have no pictures of this and i believe that's a good thing. picture ron jeremy, sweaty, in only red underwear running around singing boy band-esque pop music. yup. that's him.

it was entertaining to say the least.

i was so ready for the hives after that.

the hives. awesome. crazy. swedish.

the lead singer looks just like tom. and he would constantly say things like, "do you love the hives?" "we're from sweden. do you love sweden?"

i stuck around after the hives to catch the riverboat gamblers again. and again i was floored. they're SO GOOD. and loud. and SO GOOD.

there were less things that the singer could climb on at emo's but it didn't slow him down one bit.

there were a lot of choices of how i could end sxsw and i think the all out rock show was the way to go.

it was kind of sad after the show when i met up with lana and megan and greg down the street. all the bands were packing up their vans and trailers and getting ready to drive through the night to make it back to wherever they were going home to.

i was sitting on the curb and this guy was packing up his trumpet but decided to first get up on the roof of the van and play taps to signify the end of the festival.

it was perfect. (although my picture isn't so much. he did have a head, i promise.)
