cowbellz's Diaryland Diary ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- is it shiney or shiny? neither look right to me. i went to see NERD last night with my friends Claudia and KaMar who are really into the boston hip hop scene. in boston, there are a lot of dance clubs that turn into music venues. it's really strange. they aren't bad spaces, they're just fancier and trendier than places i'm used to seeing live music at. NERD played at the Paradise last night and i was a little thrown by how shiney it was. there were huge chrome columns in the middle of the club and red velvet on the walls. I'm going to a show in two weeks at a similar location. the club, Axis, is putting off it's usual monday night drum n' bass drag show to let Doves play on their stage. that was nice of them. but what i really enjoyed last night was the people watching. the crowd was pretty diverse. there were the nerdy white guy hip hop fans. they also made up most of the guy groupies. clutching their drumsticks (NERD played with a live band that seemed to think they were the ben folds five) and free cds like they cost a million dollars. there were the girl groupies, of course. girls with super shiny long hair and tons of cleavage. who moved around to the side of the stage after the show, talking to a roadie, hoping to get lucky. there were the more conservative girls who obviously came with their hip hop loving boyfriends. they stood quietly, doing the obligatory head bob during the set. they also seemed to LOVE the opening band that wasn't so good. heh. there were the punk rock girls in their studded belts and dyed black hair. there were the aspiring DJs and MCs working the room with their press packets. it was a fun group to watch interact with each other. but when it came down to it, everyone dug the music and danced and had a great time. and that's my favorite part about seeing live shows. 9:46 am - 04 june 2002 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
