my top 10, i mean 9
joanna made one, so i decided to make one, too. except for that ours overlap in places. and also mine is more of a top 9 than a top 10 releases of 2003.
- the yeah yeah yeahs - fever to tell - this one is still rocking my ass.
- the shins - chutes to narrow - like crack. never leaves the cd player.
- outkast - speakerboxx/the love below - they had me at hey ya.
- belle and sebastian - dear catastrophe waitress - seriously the best housecleaning cd ever. gets you moving.
- postal service - give up - danceable music with witty ben gibbard lyrics. amazing.
- beulah - yoko - there are horns!
- mates of state - my solo project - recently saw them live and that clinched it for me. so much energy.
- the strokes - room on fire - sounds remarkably like the first one. the first one worked.
- death cab for cutie - transatlanticism - i like about 3/4 of the songs on this. and those that i like i like THAT much so it made it on the list.
i've been listening to a lot of music that is "new to me" but not necessarily NEW. the sea and cake, blonde redhead, the eels, the decemberists (i don't like their new one so much so it didn't make the list), les savy fav, lucksmiths, my morning jacket (haven't gotten into their new one yet).
also, this has been the year of soul for me. so sam cooke, otis, solomon burke, bill withers, and al green are constantly in the rotation.
